Sahaana Sukumar -  A Profile

Sahaana Sukumar daughter of Mr. S Sukumar and Mrs S Indira aged 14 years studies 1X std in AMM Matriculation School Chennai and is a Bharathanatyam disciple of “Yuva Kala Bharathi” Ms. Archana Narayanamurthy in Pandhanallur School of Arts, Chennai.

She has completed her "Arangetram" on April 16, 2016 at Vani Mahal Obul Reddy Hall, T Nagar Chennai in the esteemed presence of "Acharya Choodamani" Radhika Surajit, Sri Rajagopal Sekar (Secretary - Karthik Fine Arts, Chennai), and Mrs. R Mahalakshmi (Principal, AMM Matriculation School, Chennai) and Sri. Boothalingam (former General Manager, RBI and Art critic).

 She started learning Bharathanatyam at the age of 5 from Guru. Mrs. Sarranyaa Sai Prashanth ,

Sarranyaa’s Nrtihya Vidyalaya, Adambakkam and continued there for  4 ½” Years till

December 2013. She performed an hour program for her Salangai Pooja during July 2011 under Guru Mrs. Sarranyaa Sai Prashanth.

She had performed in various places and won awards and accolades in various competitions from various trusts, institutions and Government departments.

She had performed in Kapaleeswarar Temple, Mylapore Chennai, Tanjore Brahadeeswara Temple (Navarathri),  Chidhambaram Natyanjali,  Tiruchendur Temple, Kodai Vizha conducted by TamilNadu Tourism Department, Delhi Tamil Sangam, Performed in Yugadi celebrations of Telugu Brahman Sabha Chennai, performed in Mayiladuthurai Natyanjali  - Feb 2014 and 2015, performed in Haridwaramangalam and Papanasam Natyanjali 2017, performed in Hidden idol dance show, rendered her voice for compering "Thiruvidaimarudur Natyanjali 2017" . She has also performed in Jayam 2016 Founders Day Celebration at Music College University, Chennai. She has also done compering for many Bharatanatyam performances of her colleagues. She had recently performed in Kollam in Trinethra Dance Festival in September 2017 and "Naada neeranjahan" at Tirumala in October 2017.

She had won many prizes and accolades:

·         1^st prize in Classical Dance competition conducted by Karpaga Vinayagar Trust, Puzhudivakkam in 2010 and 2012.

·         1^st Prize in dance competitions in prestigious SUMUKHI FOUNDATION’s Balar Chithirai Kalai Vizha 2012”, 2013 , 1^st prize in Marghazhi Vizha in 2012, 2^nd prize in Marghazhi Vizha 2015. 3rd prize in Balar Chithrai Kalai Vizha 2016

·         3^rd prize in District Level Bharathanatyam competitions conducted by Department of Art and culture in the year 2013

·         1^st prize in District Level 2015-16 and 2 nd prize in State Level competitions in Bharathanatyam conducted by Department of Art and culture, Govt of Tamil Nadu

·         1^st prize in 2015 classical Dance competition for all ages conducted by Tourism Department, Govt of Tamil Nadu

·         3^rd prize and 1^st prize in Rukmini Ramini composition based Bharathanatyam competition by Sivan Fine Arts Academy in the years 2014 and 15 respectively

·         1^st prize and 2^nd prize in Papanasam Sivan composition based Bharathanatyam competitions by Sivan Fine Arts Academy in the years 2014 and 15 respectively

·         2^nd prize in Bharathanatyam competitions conducted by Gnanamukundhapriya sabha in 2015

·         1^st prize in Bharathanatyam competition conducted by Sivaneya peravai Nanganallur in 2015. 1st Prize in Shabdam Bharatanatyam inter school competition in Sivasamy Kalalaya

·         1st prize on inter state competition conducted in Kollam by Neelamana Sisters and SKF - A charitable organisation in Kerala.

·         2nd Prize in Bharatanatyam competition conducted by "Omkarananda Trust" Chennai.

·         2nd prize in Senior district level category Bharatanatyam Competition conducted by Department of Art and Culture, Chennai.

·         Awarded "Abhinaya Kala Praveena" by Telugu Brahmin Mahasabha , Chennai in 2016.

·         Awarded "Illanthalir 2016" in Tanjore (sponsored by Dept. of Art and Culture program)

·         Awarded "Natya Bala Padmam" in 2017 by Sumukhi Rajasekaran Foundation Chennai.

Apart from dance, she also has participated and won prizes in Oratorical, essay writing, art work and drawing conducted in inter school levels and was awarded multi talent awards twice by Sumukhi Rajasekaran Memorial Foundation for the years 2014 and 15.

She is also part of the “CANCER AWARENESS PROGRAMs and DONATION PROGRAMS TO HELP POOR CANCER PATIENTS” conducted by her family. She has performed in many Institutions, orphanages, hospitals as a part of Cancer awareness Programs. She also helped collecting donations for this noble cause. Appreciating her effort on this attitude of serving humanity through art form, she was conferred “Yuva Ratna” by Sudesi Magazine in the year 2014.
